NAIROBI — SERVICES
Three ways to work with us
Each service addresses a different stage of a reporting project. All can be booked independently.
BEARING — SCOPING
Assignment Scoping Session
A session for reporters deciding whether a proposed assignment is worth the time it will take. We look at what would need to be true for the story to hold, how long each stage realistically takes, what could be published if only part of the material comes together, and where the effort is likely to be wasted. Suitable before committing to a piece rather than after.
INCLUDES: A written scoping note listing stages, likely obstacles and a point at which to reassess.
DURATION — 80 MINUTES · FORMAT — ONE SESSION · KES 1,250
BEARING — WEIGHTING
Evidence Weighting Workshop
A workshop on judging how much weight a piece of material can carry. Covers the difference between a document that records a decision and one that records an intention, what a single account can establish on its own, how to describe partial evidence honestly in the text, and how to write around a gap rather than over it. Aimed at reporters who want their published claims to match their actual grounds.
INCLUDES: Two sessions using material from your own work, with a written weighting framework afterwards.
DURATION — 75 MINUTES EACH · FORMAT — TWO SESSIONS · KES 2,500
BEARING — ACCOMPANIMENT
Extended Project Accompaniment
Ongoing support across a project lasting two months or more, with regular scheduled conversations rather than ad hoc contact. At each meeting we review what has been established since the last one, what remains open, and whether the original question still holds. Intended for reporters working alone on something substantial who need an outside perspective at intervals.
INCLUDES: Written notes after each session, plus a running open-questions record maintained throughout the project.
DURATION — FOUR 1-HOUR SESSIONS OVER 8 WEEKS · KES 3,800
